The Beauty. The Beast.

Tracy G has a deep passion for encouraging womxn to explore our layers, our words and our presence… beyond the lens of improvement. Another big-time interest of hers? Aiding men in amplifying their humanity by exploring their divine femininity and inspiring humans of color to move our bodies in the name of self-care.

What is your definition of freedom? What does it look and feel like to you? And how do you cultivate it daily?

Freedom to me, is an awareness and an action of choice. Of course it wears different layers, influenced by different forces… but in its raw, straight-out-the-earth form, freedom is the ability to consult with our selves, with our God, in the privacy of our brain + heart… then MOVE on that consultation. Before freedom ever manifests physically, an internal emancipation happens, sparked by reclaiming a territory that is all ours -- the mind. It feels like calm, clarity and courage. I do my best to cultivate freedom daily by getting still with God for whatever time available, so I can surrender in order to receive.

How have your thoughts, perception, and understanding of freedom evolved with time? What was it before and what is it now?

I used to think freedom was living life with reckless abandon, never looking in the rearview to see what mess I may have left behind. Freedom was letting my impulses hop in the driver's seat. Overdosing on fun. Only zooming in, rarely zooming out. Now I understand that discipline isn't a form of punishment but empowerment. Discipline reminds me of the bigger picture, the end goals, the delayed gratification, the deposits my future self will thank me for and essentially I need all four of those to sustain my longterm freedom.

Freedom can feel like something we’re all seeking, but may have trouble grasping. What's one piece of advice or some words of wisdom you can offer to this community as they look to "get free"?

Create your own GPS system of sorts. Block off time-- true solitary time-- to write down what energizes you, how you energize others and why both are important to you. Then start to think how these can take shape in multiple areas of your life: professionally, financially, spiritually, etc. It's easier than ever in the digital age for our world to take you off course... and feeling lost is the opposite of feeling free. But when you refer back to this desire map you've created, you'll be rerouted to your original destination and begin to "get free."

Share an anecdote, memory, or practice in your life that embodies freedom in every way.

My celibacy chapter for sure. Taking time away from loaning my body so I could put time away for owning my body was a game-changer for me. This helped me to explore my feelings-- their motives, their stories, their ebbs and flows-- to better assess their actual bare bone truth. Cause as we've all heard, the truth will set you... free.

Your brand, She's Beauty and The Beast, is all about liberating women to be their most truest self. In light of this, can you tell us what has been your recipe to freedom?

Hmm, well I first want to note that I think it's important to be flexible with the recipe as it may need adjustments depending on the season. The foundation for me however--no matter how it's remixed-- is all about reconnecting with my breath. Depending on the setting surrounding our discomfort -- shit like ashwaganda, CBD, weed, your partner's touch, yoga, essential oils, my audio vision boards, whatever your meds of choice, just may not be accessible in the moment for a variety of reasons. Life is full of plot twists as we all deeply know. But our breath... man our B R E A T H... is with us ALWAYS no matter the time or place or forecast. Our breath is my vote for MVP of team human existence. When we get intentional with using sips and gulps of oxygen as a healing tool, peace begins to unfold which ultimately tells freedom to come hither. Our breath anchors, steadies and reshapes us for the better in ways that honor both the science and the sacred of our lives.
